| At King Mountain Ranch, we encourage you to customize your own ranch vacation by offering the opportunity to choose from many structured events available every day, or enjoy other “unstructured” activities at your leisure. You may be as active or relaxed as you’d like each day and still spend quality time with family and friends all while enjoying many different and fun-filled activities not found at other ranches. If there’s a specific activity you’ve always dreamed of experiencing, let our talented staff at King Mountain Ranch try to make it a reality. We are here for you. |

| HORSES |
|
|
| Our excellent horseback-riding program is tailored to your experience level from the beginner to the intermediate and advanced. We are so pleased that you are coming to enjoy trail rides through miles of beautiful mountains and open meadows, twice per day if you would like. By the end of the week we hope that you have worked your way up to going on the all-day trail ride near the end of the week; 5-6 hrs in the saddle! Please keep in mind that we are here to teach you to ride and handle your horse! We want you to learn to become a better rider so that by the end of the week you have qualified for our more advanced rides and activities. Everyone is welcome to take organized lessons in our large arena or practice horsemanship skills. For those who are interested and are capable, we keep a small herd of steers to teach our guests the fundamentals of working cattle and team penning. |

| Horseback riding program: Walking – Trotting – and Loping |
| At KMR we understand that you don’t want to just walk your horses all day long, so we offer 3 different levels of rides. In the beginning of the week you can choose to head out on our walk rides, and then start progressing to the trot and loping rides. We will offer riding instruction and lessons throughout the week to help you gain the ability and confidence to ride at a faster gait. |
| Breakfast ride: |
| On our breakfast ride we will leave the barn around 8am and take about an hour ride and end up at our breakfast site. There our wranglers will prepare a cowboy breakfast over an open fire. After breakfast you will have the option of continuing for a longer ride, or heading back to the ranch to enjoy one of our other activities. Remember we talked about smoothing out the rough edges here at KMR, well we have installed a bathroom facility and hand washing station at our wooded breakfast site. |
| Lunch Rides: |
| A couple of time during the week we offer a lunch ride. This ride is exactly what it sounds like…you will eat lunch while out on a trail ride. I can’t tell you now, but there is a special secret planed for lunch. |
| All Day Rides |
| This ride is not for the faint of heart, its over 12 miles of mountain terrain. If you choose to sign up for this ride (must be approved by a wrangler) you will leave the barn at about 10am, and we don’t expect you back until about 4pm. You will see some beautiful country and trust me; you will be a bit sore and tired by the time you get back to the ranch. |
| Arena Lessons |
| Throughout your stay at our ranch we will be doing our best to improve your horsemanship skills, in and out of the saddle. We will be offering group and private lessons in our arena to help you feel as comfortable as possible in the saddle. |
| Arena Games |
| Twice per week we will have area games and a modified ranch rodeo. This is where you can try your hand at a few rodeo events. Sorry our insurance carrier will not allow you to rope a live steer, but you will have plenty of fun herding cows in the team penning events. We will have many different modified events like pole bending, barrel racing, relay races, wild bronc riding (ok we were kidding about that one). |
| Team Penning |
| Team penning is a popular activity here at KMR. This is where you get the opportunity to sort a few marked steers from a small herd, then drive them to the other side of the arena and push them into a small pen…all while horseback. Sounds easy huh, well we will see. Expect plenty of smiles and lots of laughter. |
| Wagon Rides |
| A few times during the week we will hitch up the team and offer a ride on real steal wheel wooden wagon, not a rubber tire impersonator like some places. You may get the opportunity to feed our herd of horses from the wagon, or just enjoy a ride to the Friday night BBQ. |
| FISHING |
| Try your luck at fly-fishing our stocked, private lake or a smaller pond. Be aware though, that you may catch an 18-24 inch rainbow trout! We have all of the equipment you need to try this great Colorado activity, along with rowboats and paddleboats. We have 2 ponds and a 42 acre lake for your fishing enjoyment.
We also offer guided fishing and fly fishing instruction almost everyday during the summer. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your skills or learn something completely new. And again, we have all the appropriate gear, so all you have to do is show up with a smile. |
| An Abundant Variety of Activities |
| We offer guests the opportunity to be involved with many different and fun-filled activities not found on other ranches. Not only do we provide excellent horse riding programs, but also a multitude of other activities. |
| SKEET AND TRAP SHOOTING |
| If you’re a bit sore from riding, or just want something different, we offer a really fun alternative. At the top of our mountain, amidst spectacular views, challenge your shooting skills on our skeet and trap range. It’s great fun for beginners or expert marksman alike. We have more than just a hand thrower here; we provide a full shooting range that consists of a high and low skeet house and a trap shooting house. For our all inclusive guests, we offer one round per member of the family (adults and youth), any additional round is charged at a modest fee of $15.00 per round (25 shots). |
| NEW RIFLE RANGE |
| New for our 2007 season, we have installed a new cowboy action rifle range for our 2007 summer season. We have a variety of different targets to shoot at from both a beginner and an advanced station. Come test your skills and see if you can set a new marksmanship record. We are offering a prize for a perfect score. |
| HIKING & NATURE WALKS |
| Pack your hiking shoes to experience the beauty of the Arapaho National Forest from afoot! For those looking forward to exploring the many trails and meadows, we offer all levels of Hiking – both guided and unguided. We invite you to “get outside” and surround yourself in our scenic valley or the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. |

| BOWLING, RECREATION CENTER ACTIVITIES, TENNIS & BASKETBALL. |
|
 |
| We are the only guest ranch that has an Antique Bowling Alley in our Recreation Center! It also houses our Billiards, Foos-ball & Ping-pong tables, board games and a big screen TV with a wall full of videos. We also have two lighted Tennis Courts & a Basketball Court for your enjoyment, day or night. |
|
 |
| SWIMMING & WATER ACTIVITIES |
| Enjoy a dip in our indoor, full size swimming pool. We keep it heated to just the right temperature and have plenty of water toys available for the kids (and you) to play with. Don’t forget the two hot tubs, one indoor and the other outdoor, as well as the paddleboats and rowboats on our lake! |

| CHILDREN’S PROGRAM -- “The Foxes Den!” |
|
 |
| RIDING PROGRAM – “The Foxes Den!” |
|
|
| Our horse program is very safety conscious. The rule of thumb for trail rides is 6 years old and older, however the top requirements are that every rider MUST be able to stop and turn his or her horse without assistance and be confident doing so. Kids who possess the mandatory riding skills are offered the opportunity to go on the trail rides in the mountains that surround the ranch with the Foxes Den group. Those who don’t yet have the skills to go on the trails get the chance to practice their horsemanship with our wranglers’ assistance to hopefully improve enough during this time to ride on a trail later in the week. We ask that you please help us support the “horsemanship growth process” in order for them to be safe and better handle their horse with more confidence. We ALL, even the wranglers and “Mom and Dad,” have to be qualified to ride with the big boys so, help let them know this! Keep in mind that both the trail-riders and the non-trail riders will have the opportunity to play fun “games” on horseback, in our large arena, and to learn basic horse care, grooming, and how to saddle their own horse
Throughout the week, each day is occupied with nature hikes, swimming, learning a “talent” for our weekly talent show, arts & crafts, and playing games on our large front lawn, along with many more activities. Some of our most popular special events created by our children’s counselors have included Field Days, Kid’s Only Cookout, a Lunch Ride or Hike, Tie- Dying, making Homemade Ice Cream, and a Ranch Treasure Hunt. It makes you wish you were a kid again! |
